Welcome to the ESA SMOS Online Dissemination Service

SMOS LogoThis service provides access, via HTTP and FTP, to all SMOS Level 1 and Level 2 Science and NRT data, to some auxiliary data products and to daily L3C Sea Ice Thickness maps, to SMOS users registered on the ESA Earth Online Portal. If you still haven't registered to SMOS data, please perform the registration steps.

The system currently includes the complete SMOS Level 1b/1c and Level 2 dataset v6, i.e., all operational and reprocessed science products generated with the latest operational version of the processors (v6xx). More information on the different data products and their Product Format Specifications can be found here.

Web Access:

You can search and browse the SMOS products openly from the "Collections" button on this page, but you first need to be registered to SMOS data and then to be logged in with your SSO account ("Login" button) to be able to download files by HTTP or FTP.

The web interface allows for data navigation and selection by data type, acquisition date, geographical area, and file format (Earth Explorer or NetCDF for L2 products only). For more details, please read the on-line help page.

FTP Access:

The SMOS nominal and NRT data can be also downloaded by plain FTP or explicit FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS) - which is the preferred method - from the smos-diss.eo.esa.int server using your EO-SSO credentials. In addition to the Earth Explorer format, L2 Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity user products are also available in NetCDF format under the _nc subdirectories. See more details here.
